Earl ends with whimper in Nova Scotia
    Pennsylvania Sun
    Sunday 5th September, 2010

Former hurricane Earl finally made landfall on the weekend, ending up in Canada’s Nova Scotia province.

The storm had been downgraded from hurricane to tropical storm, but packed hurricane-speed winds when it made its entry into Canada.

High winds downed trees, flooded roads and left 200,000 people without power in the small province, which only has a population of about 940,000.

Earl’s center crossed the Northhumberland Strait, north of mainland Nova Scotia and then moved northeast.

In Nova Scotia’s provincial capital Halifax, powerful winds churned up the harbor and tossed litter, as spectators watched the storm from cozy cafes.

The Canadian Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for parts of Nova Scotia which ended up delivering heavy rain and gusty winds.
